David Chester

Soft spoken in person, David Chester creates excitement on stage when he plays keyboard and sings with the Midlife Crisis Band. His love of music stems from his high school days, when he played in various bands.

Right out of high school, he went to Carlton University in Ottawa for a year and then York University in Toronto. His majors were music and English. David took some time off from school to tour with a band and travel around the world.

David lived in Montreal for a while, where he "hung out" at Biddles Jazz Club. Then he attended University of Toronto to finish his degree, specializing in solo vocals and keyboard.

David's professional experience is impressive. He played at Café on the Park, opening for people like Livingston Taylor and Peter Tork. He also played for Ken Tobias for a while, and Ken co-produced David's first album, "Goliath," in 1984.

After playing for a while for Montreal's Myles Cohen of Myles & Lennie, David had some fun playing the hotel circuit in a Motown band. The gigs ran from a month to six weeks, and David says, "They treated us great."

David learned a lot playing with singer, songwriter, guitarist and engineer Scott Dibble who used the name "Watertown" for his solo work, and opened for Barenaked Ladies at Ontario Place.

The unassuming rhythmic musician is also an accomplished businessman. David started the renowned Chalet Studio (www.chalet.com) in Claremont, Ontario in 1985. This elegant recording studio has served numerous Canadian musicians from Liona Boyd to Rush. David is CEO and handles all the planning for the facility.

In 1990, when he and his wife had their first child, David stopped touring. The couple has two children now and enjoy a happy family life. David produced a CD in 1992 called "Somewhere Here."

For David, Midlife Crisis is fun and a great way to stay connected in the music world. In addition to performing, David contributes to harmonies and musical technology. For him, "The band is the perfect blend of family and business."
